Hurricanes Fans Need to Relax

I’ve been a Miami Hurricanes fan since the 80’s. I’m talking title run years and Al Golden-esque years. Been up and been down, but it seems like today’s Hurricanes fans think a championship team can be built overnight like back in the days. Those days are gone and it’s time to come back down to reality.

I get that the Hurricanes haven’t been a force in college football since Donna Shalala tried numerous times to dismantle the juggernaut that was Hurricanes football. Fact of the matter is that these Miami Hurricanes aren’t ready to contend yet. The operative word being yet.

I don’t get how people can think a new coach who inherited scraps left behind Manny Diaz can turn it around in two years. Have there been hiccups and crazy decisions like not kneeling against Georgia Tech; of course.

You don’t want to hear this, but Florida State had lean years too after Willie Taggert left his scraps behind. Mike Norvell had growing pains as he turned the program around. There were even calls for him to be fired by the fan base, but I don’t think that is the case anymore.

What I’m saying Hurricanes fans is calm the hell down. Cristobal isn’t getting fired. This team is turning it around.

Cristobal got rid of 30+ of Diaz’s players and started to bring his type of players. Yes he changed coordinators already, but they’re a lot better than last season.

Have you noticed the sidelines when the recruits come in during warmups? It isn’t empty like when Diaz was here. There aren’t VIP 2 star players watching warmups. The recruit section is packed with potential studs; 4 and 5 star players.

The biggest thing that stuck out to me was Rueben Bain. It was reported that he was crying after the loss to Nort Carolina saying he doesn’t like losing. Those are the type of players that will turn the program around. And guess what there more players like him coming in.

Whoever though the Canes were going to challenge for a National Title are delusional. I honestly didn’t think they would challenge for the ACC title this season, but that is just me.

Just like Dolphins fans hung up about winning a title 50 years ago, Hurricanes fans have the same problem. They’re too busy looking at the past. The teams of Alonzo Highsmith, Warren Sapp, Ken Dorsey are long gone. The game has changed and teams have runs and then they have to rebuild.

Yes Miami has been rebuilding for years. The problem is they haven’t had the right architect leading the builds. Sure we had success with Mark Richt, but was he truly “here?” It always felt like he was coaching but really didn’t want to coach because all he knew was to be a coach. I’m just happy RIcht got us the indoor practice facility.

Want to be real Hurricanes fans? Show up to Hard Rock Stadium. Pack it. Show the recruits and teams that this place can be a hostile environment.

Don’t just show up like a typical Miami fan base; only when a team is winning.

These are growing pains; real growing pains. Not that false hope chains and rings brought. This team is building something special. I see it. I believe it. You should too.

So stop your whining and turn that energy into loud cheers at Hard Rock, because I don’t want to see you in a couple of years saying you always had faith in this team because we all know the truth.

Leave the nostalgia and your title dreams this year in the past like your torn Jeremy Shockey jersey you’ve been wearing for 20 years. Better days are on their way.
